ASC in the Park: Inside our music festivals

The service users at ASC have been showing off their best moves at regular ‘music festivals’ organised by the staff.

Every two months, the facility’s units come together for a day of music, singing and dancing – rocking out to a mix of old classics, new favourites and some legendary party songs.

They even find time for a ceilidh to round things off in style!

Normally organised around a theme, like the 1980s, or special occasions such as Christmas, the festivals are lots of fun for the service users, many of whom love to sing and dance.

Anne Foulds, Activities Coordinator at ASC’s Balbeggie facility, said: “It’s so important to the service users. It gives them social interaction and a purpose.

“Activities like the music festivals are great for their mental health. It keeps them active, and it’s fantastic to see them having so much fun.

“It’s all about supporting the service users, and being able to do that gives me so much pleasure to be part of ASC.”

As well as being enjoyable for the service users and staff, the festivals also have enormous benefits.

They help the service users enjoy social interaction and inclusion, while also providing mental and physical health benefits.

Jen MacFarlane, Activities Coordinator at ASC’s Campsie unit, added: “We have great staff who are willing to get involved and have fun with the guys. It’s great fun – the service users and staff all love it.

“We’ve found having the festivals regularly has had a really positive impact on the service users’ mental and physical health.”
