Last week at our ASC Campus in Balbeggie, we proudly celebrated Learning Disability Week and this year’s theme, “I Am Here… To Be Seen.”

For five fantastic days, our wonderful residents and team took centre stage.

From creative crafts and baking, to dancing, sports and sensory activities, the week gave everyone plenty of opportunities to express themselves, have fun and spend time with friends.

The week kicked off on Monday with a “This Is Me” Day.

Our residents got creative by sharing their personalities and interests through colourful self-portraits and handprints. Each finger represented something they love, from favourite foods and colours to music and hobbies. The activity sparked plenty of conversations and gave everyone a unique opportunity to learn more about each other.

Inspired by the theme of the week, everyone also created personal pledges. They shared how they would spread kindness, support inclusion and help others feel seen and valued, both during the week and beyond.

Next up, a musical marathon on Tuesday.

Everyone requested their favourite songs, filling the room with a mix of sounds, genres and rhythms. Meanwhile, dancing, singing and a lively game of musical chairs kept the giggles going all day long.

On Wednesday, culinary skills were put to the test.

Our talented residents and team members joined forces to bake cupcakes and let their imaginations run wild. To celebrate individuality, everyone chose their own flavours, toppings and decorations. Reflecting the theme of the week perfectly, no two cupcakes looked the same.

What’s more, arts and crafts activities kept the creativity flowing throughout the afternoon, giving everyone another chance to showcase their talents.

Time to reflect.

Following several busy days, Thursday offered a slower pace.

Everyone enjoyed sensory activities, calming music and a peaceful nature walk. Not only did this provide an opportunity to reflect on the week so far, but it also encouraged everyone to relax, recharge and enjoy the outdoors.

After all, the quieter moments can be just as important as the busy ones.

Finally, the week ended with a sporting celebration. Fully refreshed, everyone headed into Friday’s Fun Sports Day ready for action.

Football, bean bag challenges, ball games and ‘musical ball stop’ kept the fun going from start to finish.

Whether taking part in the activities or cheering from the sidelines, everyone got involved in their own way. Most importantly, the focus stayed firmly on participation, teamwork and enjoyment.

A week to remember.

To round off an incredible week, there were certificates and medals to highlight achievements and remember a special week.

These awards recognised the enthusiasm, effort and determination shown throughout the celebrations. More importantly, they celebrated the brilliant people at the heart of our ASC community.

From artwork and baking to dancing, sports and building friendships, our residents brought the theme “I Am Here… To Be Seen” to life in every activity.

Ultimately, the week reminded us that everyone deserves to feel valued, included and empowered to be themselves.
